Development opportunities

We are is committed to creating a supportive, productive and enjoyable environment for our research staff.

To enable you to get the most out of your research activities and your research careers at Leeds Beckett and beyond, our training and development team offers a variety of development opportunities to support you.

Our workshops cover a range of topics to help you support your students and to enhance your professional and personal development. We also run a comprehensive programme for staff wanting to become Research Awards Supervisors, and an array of workshops on research funding.

We advise you to have regular discussions with your head of subject and colleagues about your development and career. Current guidelines from UK Research & Innovation recommend that research staff take part in 10 days of development activities every year. This could include attendance at seminars, conferences and skills or career development workshops. As HR Excellence in Research Award holders, we embrace the principle of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers that ‘individual researchers share the responsibility for, and need to pro-actively engage in, their own personal and career development.

Our professional development programme runs throughout the academic year and is updated on a regular basis. Full details, with current availability, are included in the Research & Enterprise section of our university’s People Development programme. All upcoming training and events can be found on the Events page.

If you would like to run a workshop - or have a suggestion for a future session, please get in touch.
