creative and critical thinkers

We are a community of researchers, students and alumni and seek to foster a diverse and inclusive learning and working environment.

our community

Imagine what you can achieve here. Working with internationally-recognised academics in history, English, creative writing and media. Collaborating with organisations and industry. Exploring research that changes lives, with backing from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, Historic England and the Arts Council England.

We can do amazing things together.

where?

Leeds is the Northern heart of culture and the arts. Your campus sits in the very centre of the city, surrounded by over 18 museums, 10 art galleries, 17 theatres, 4 film production companies, Channel 4 national headquarters and 3 recording studios (plus the odd bar, restaurant and club!). We work directly with Leeds museums and galleries and many regional events, including the Ilkley Literature Festival.

      how?

Our research and teaching explore a diversity of topics, from postcolonial literature to carnival cultures, environmental history to urban disasters and social identity, and online racism in football to cultural shaping of new subjectivities in media. We're also very hands-on: from regular conferences, seminars and events organised by our Centre for Culture and the Arts, to collaborations with institutes and cultural organisations.

        our colleagues

Our academics always strive to inspire, challenge, listen and innovate.

They've spent their careers exploring living, evolving subjects. Join us here, and you'll help shape the discoveries that are yet to come.

        our students and alumni

This is not a conveyor belt. Our students use what they've learned to bring new ideas to established industries, and even carve out new ones. Every year, they prove that a humanities degree can take you anywhere. Where do you want to go?
